Cloud Skills in Demand Across DACH in 2026

Cloud has quietly become one of the busiest areas of IT hiring across Germany and the DACH region. As companies move more of their systems to the cloud and work to run them well, the demand for people who can build, secure and manage cloud platforms keeps rising, and supply is not keeping up. Here is where the demand sits in 2026, the skills clients are asking for, and what it means whether you are hiring or building your own career.

Why cloud demand is climbing across DACH

Two things are driving it. First, cloud has moved from a one off project to the way most companies now run their systems, so the work no longer stops after a migration. It continues in running, securing and improving the platform. Second, German and DACH companies increasingly spread their systems across more than one provider. In our own roles, a multi-cloud setup is now the norm rather than the exception, which means teams need people who understand more than a single platform.

On top of this sits Germany’s wider IT talent shortage, with tens of thousands of open IT roles across the country, so cloud specialists are competed for hard. Data sovereignty rules add another layer, because companies want people who can build cloud setups that keep sensitive data compliant with local requirements.

The cloud skills clients are hiring for

These are the cloud roles we see the most demand for across DACH.

Role

Why it is in demand

Cloud Security Engineer

Security and compliance sit at the top of the list, so skills like Zero Trust and identity and access management are in strong demand.

Platform and DevOps Engineer

Companies want their cloud to run smoothly and release quickly, so the people who automate and maintain it are essential.

Multi-Cloud Architect

With most firms using more than one provider, architects who can design across AWS, Azure and private systems are scarce and valuable.

FinOps Specialist

As cloud bills grow, companies need people who can keep spending under control without slowing delivery.

Data and Machine Learning Engineer

Much of the value of cloud is in the data and AI it enables, so these roles are growing fast.

On the platforms themselves, AWS is still the most widely asked for, Azure is strong in larger and regulated organisations, and Google Cloud comes up most in data and AI focused work. Knowing more than one is increasingly what sets a candidate apart.

What this means

For hiring managers. Cloud roles are among the hardest to fill right now, so the sensible move is to plan early and stay open on how you resource them. A mix of skills, security, platform and architecture, usually works better than searching for one person who does everything. Being clear about which providers and compliance needs matter most will also help you find the right fit faster.

For contractors. Cloud is a strong area to build in, because demand is high and supply is tight. Skills in cloud security, platform and DevOps, and multi-cloud architecture are especially sought after. Knowing more than one provider makes you easier to place, and in the German market, pairing that with an understanding of local compliance and data rules sets you apart. German alongside English widens the roles open to you.

Was das bedeutet
